What is rye malt whiskey?

Rye Malt and Single Rye Malt

Rye malt whiskey uses rye grain that has been malted, a process traditionally reserved for barley. The malting process allows the rye grain to begin germination, which coverts internal starches to sugar - sugar being necessary for future fermentation. Letting the grain convert naturally over several days unlocks more of the bold, spicy rye flavor than using unconverted rye during the cooking and fermentation processes.

Our single rye malt whiskey is made from 100% malted rye. We distill to 130-135 proof and placed in charred new oak barrels at 115 proof to age. This leads to a bold, up front rye flavor for even the most discerning rye palate.

Our rye malt whiskey is made from a mash bill comprised of rye malt, wheat, and malted barley. Similarly distilled to 130-135 proof, it is placed in charred new oak barrels at 105 proof. All of this combines to create a lighter, smoother taste for someone who likes the taste of rye, but doesn’t want the bold taste of our single rye malt.
